Solution 34713: Finding the Reduced Row Echelon Form of a Matrix on the TI-83 Plus and TI-84 Plus Family of Graphing Calculators.
How do I find the reduced row echelon form of a matrix on the TI-83 Plus and TI-84 Plus family of graphing calculators?
To find the reduced row echelon form of a matrix, input the matrix, exit the matrix editor, and then paste the rref() function on the home screen with the name of the matrix. The example below will demonstrate this procedure.
For Example: Find the rref() of matrix A
To enter the matrix:
1) Press [2nd] then [x-1] to access the Matrix menu
2) Press [→] [→] to access EDIT, then press [enter] to edit matrix A
3) Input the dimensions of the matrix by pressing 2 [enter] 3 [enter]
4) Input the matrix entries 3 [enter] -2 [enter] 6 [enter] -1 [enter] 4 [enter] 7 [enter]
5) Exit the matrix editor by pressing [2nd] then [mode]
To find the reduced row echelon form using the rref( function:
6) Press [2nd] then [x-1] to access the Matrix menu
7) Press [→] to access MATH.
8) Press [alpha] then [apps] to paste rref( to the screen.
9) Press [2nd] then [x-1] [1], which pastes matrix A after the rref command.
10) Press [ ) ] then [enter] to display the result.
